Rehab & Restore – Top Priority in a Pandemic!
People go on living, regardless of the challenges around us. Those words are especially true when it comes to the elderly Residents here at Sacred Heart Residence.
Rehab Director, Paula Lee, said, “Our biggest challenge is to first, be safe, but restorative.”
For the first eight months of the Covid shutdown, our rehab staff met the challenge by working one-on-one in the Resident’s rooms. While that kept the body moving, the ability to socialize became difficult.
In October, we were able to start having limited visits in small numbers in the rehab room. Everyone noticed this much-needed improvement. Hopefully, we can soon return to group exercise on a total basis.
Paula said, “We’ve learned a lot during these times, especially when it comes to safe practices. We were strong before, but we’ve discovered even more effective methods.”
The top priorities include preventing functional decline, core muscle groups, and decreasing falls.
We have new programs, such as the chair yoga program and an updated pain modalities approach. Some of those methods are moist heat therapy, cold therapy, massage, and paraffin wax baths.
Our Residents are our most important focus, and we look forward to a return to normalcy soon!
