Our Community of Little Sisters encouraged the staff here at Sacred Heart Residence to attend the recent Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally at Spanish Plaza in Mobile. The rally was organized in response to the Health and Human Services mandate. There were several speakers, from politicians, to Protestant firebrand preachers, to ordinary Catholics upset with the government’s actions. Their message was clear: This is not just a Catholic issue. This is a religious freedom issue, and people of all faiths need to come together to stop the HHS mandate.
There were people from all walks of life at the rally, but it was especially good to see the Little Sisters in their white habits. Mother Marcel and the Little Sisters here in Mobile do not like making political statements. They prefer to stay in the background. But if forced, they are not afraid of standing up for their beliefs.
