This summer, Little Sisters Sacred Heart Residence hosted the St. Ignatius Vacation Bible School. We had over 80 students from 5th grade to 8th grade come to our Home every day for a week, staying for several hours. Each day started off with prayer as we asked for the Spirit of St. Francis to be with us as we learned how to implement his life lessons on service. We then had an hour of faith lessons teaching us about St. Francis and his life and how Pope Francis has chosen to follow in his footsteps. The students then had service projects that they worked on. In keeping with the theme of St. Francis, the students made bird baths and bird feeders to put in the courtyards of our Home. They had several of the Residents come and help them design the bird baths. One of the days, the students took time to write to each of the Residents about how grateful they were to be in our Home and what they had learned so far and then delivered the letters to each of the Residents and visited with many of them. Many of the students said that this was their favorite part of Vacation Bible School. On the last day, all of the students attended Mass with the Residents. It was a great way to end a great week. We look forward to having them come again so that we can learn together how to be better examples of Christ.
