Little Sisters of the Poor volunteer and Association Jeanne Jugan member, Mrs. Barbara Hartley, will be recognized by the Archdiocese of Mobile for her exemplary spirit of service to God and neighbor as a 2014 recipient of the Christ the King Medal. The Archdiocese honors those nominated by their parishes each year during the annual Christ the King celebration. Mrs. Hartley has been nominated by Corpus Christi Parish in Mobile.
As a member of Corpus Christi since 1968, Mrs. Hartley and her husband participated in the activities of the parish and school until his death in 1975. As a widow, Bobbie remained active in all aspects of the parish and school as well as worked outside the home to support her 5 children. After her retirement in 1999, she joined a friend volunteering at Sacred Heart Residence and became an Association Jeanne Jugan member in 2006. In addition to her hours of service given to our Home, she serves on the boards of several local charitable organizations and supports the pro-life ministry by praying outside local abortion clinics. She also participates in Corpus Christi’s Women’s Club, Pastoral Care for the Homebound, Women of Mary, Altar Sodality and serves as a Eucharistic Minister.
The Sacred Heart Residence community is so thankful to be blessed by Mrs. Hartley’s generosity of spirit and caring, as well as the time and talents shared with us by all of our wonderful volunteers. They truly manifest the tradition of service and caring modeled for us by St. Jeanne Jugan in her humble life and carried on today in Little Sisters Homes throughout the world.
