Hola! Soy Rita Buitrago. Este es mi historia.
Hello, my name is Rita Buitrago and this is my story. I grew up in a small town called Santa Rosa in Colombia. I have 11 siblings and we are all very close. Whenever I was older I moved to Cali, Colombia. I got a job at the National Bank as their secretary. It was my job to keep the minutes for all the meetings so I knew all of their secrets! I quickly learned how to write in shorthand. If someone were to look at my notes they would think that I was writing in an ancient Egyptian language, but I could read it. I can still write some shorthand.
I enjoy watching Novelas (Spanish soap operas), listening to music, dancing, and playing cards. When I was younger, I would frequent dance clubs with my friends. On one occasion, I entered the club and the owner told me that I was the most beautiful person he had ever met and wanted to take my picture. I love to play cards, especially the game called King. If you were to ask any of my family, they would tell you that I am very good at King!
I have one daughter and 2 grandchildren. They are the loves of my life. My daughter came to the U.S. for spring break one year and fell in love with it. She moved here shortly afterward. I missed her so much, so I came to visit and decided to stay.
My coming to Little Sisters of the Poor was a miracle. There wasn’t room for a long time, but I waited patiently. I knew that Little Sisters was a great place to live. One day I received the call that there was an opening and I couldn’t have been happier. When I came to the home was the first time I realized the name: Sacred Heart. I knew that this would be my home. The Sacred Heart is so special to me and I carried one with me everywhere, so knowing that this was the name of my new home, I knew that God brought me here.
