Mardi Gras is a wonderful time for all in Mobile! Everyone here at Sacred Heart Residence looks forward to a festive season of watching parades, getting dressed up, throwing beads and Moon Pies, and just having fun. Mobile has always had a family friendly atmosphere where people of all ages can come together and have a good time. The parades even come to our Home!
Today we “kicked off” our Mardi Gras season with the Conde Cavaliers and the Mary G. Montgomery High School band making their annual parade through the halls of our Home. All of our Residents and many friends took part in the festivities. The marching band played music, the people in costumes threw beads and trinkets, and our own Sylvia Robinson led the parade! Sylvia has been part of our family for many years, both as a CNA working here and now as a Resident. Today she returned to her spot at the front of the parade.
Sylvia wanted to share a reflection on her role as leader of the parade: “When I led the parades in the past I smiled and walked down the hall and laughed and did a little dance. I’m going to be doing the same thing this year if I can. I can’t walk, but if someone pushes me in my wheelchair I might get up and do a little dance! I really look forward to leading the parade because I call this Home!”
