Christmas is a time for shopping, decorating, parties, gift-giving, wrapping, list-making – stop me when you’re tired! But it should also be a time of year when we pause to recognize and acknowledge the gifts we receive every day and show appreciation to those who are blessings in our lives. At Sacred Heart Residence, we receive an abundance of continuous blessings from a group of very important people – our volunteers. Through God’s grace, they are called to share their time and talents with us to support the work of the Little Sisters and staff and perform so many acts of kindness to make our Residents feel respected and loved.
We couldn’t let the Christmas season go by without showing our appreciation to these invaluable members of the Sacred Heart community. Sisters, Residents and staff joined forces to host our annual Volunteer Christmas party to express our gratitude for the gift of time and talents shared. The volunteers were entertained by the Residents’ Jingle Bell Chorale and beautiful music provided by our talented Sisters. The kitchen staff prepared a delicious display of wonderful food. Resident Sara Wilder, 99 ½ years young, shared her story of volunteering at Sacred Heart beginning in the 1960s before she became a Resident in the 1970s! Trees she planted as a volunteer in front of our Home are now fully grown. Her gift of service lives on for generations to enjoy. Others shared their stories of why they volunteer and what draws them to our very special Home. The party was enjoyed by all and allowed the Sisters, Residents and staff to express our appreciation for the gifts given to us every day by those who so lovingly share in our mission of service to the elderly poor.
