Valentine’s Day is for everyone! It’s a perfect reminder to say, ‘I love you’ more frequently and also a wonderful reminder to show our love daily.
Our celebration started the day before Valentine’s Day with each Employee going to a different Resident and giving them a small box of old fashion Valentine candy and a little card, asking them if he or she would be their Valentine. The Residents loved it and did it ever bring back memories!
On Valentine’s Day there were special meals all day but the Mass was offered for the intentions of our Residents and Employees. Fr. Cunningham reminded that Jesus is our first Valentine as He loves us more than anyone and He gave His life for us, to the last drop of His blood!
Following Mass, we had a Valentine luncheon in our beautifully decorated auditorium and there were two Employees at each Resident’s table. It was a fun time and a walk down ‘memory lane.’ Everyone enjoyed this time as well as the special Valentine’s Day meal. Several people were overheard expressing how grateful they are for one another and we could feel the love that was shared. This celebration might best be summed up in our Residents and Employees own words: “I love you” and the reply ~ “I love you with all my heart and not just on Valentine’s Day!” We all feel very blessed to love and to know that we are loved by those around us, especially by our dear Residents!
This was the dream of St. Jeanne Jugan, the Mother Foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor that we would be family and love one another, not just on Valentine’s Day but every day!
