The Residents have had a wonderful and fun Mardi Gras season. For the Royal Cocktail Party on the 10th, the Residents were dressed so beautifully. Some of the ladies wore long dresses with earrings, eye shadow and blush. The men were dressed in suits for this happy night. The entire house was there and the auditorium was decorated in Mardi Gras style and colors. The Dietary Department truly set out an elegant dinner that was fit for a King and Queen! What a wonderful and unforgettable night!
The Royal Dinner held on February 17th for the Royal Court took place in Holy Family Lounge and was equally elegant. Our Activities Department provided beautiful handmade decorations for the meal. This event was just for the Royal Court and their families and there were 46 people in all! That same afternoon at 2 pm was the Coronation and what a magnificent event that was! The auditorium was again decorated for the entrance of the Mayor and Jester, the Royal Court, and the King and Queen. The Murphy High School ROTC made quite the impression with their uniforms and the gun honor guard.
The Murphy High School Brass Quintet provided the music for this royal event. Deacon Steve Seymour, as is tradition, was the MC, and he of course was dressed in a tux! As each member of the court entered the Royal Palace, Deacon Seymour gave the audience a little biography of each one. It was touching to see the ladies in the Royal Court escorted in with one of the young men in the ROTC. My, my! What an event! The climax, of course, was when King Pat entered, everyone rose and stood at attention applauding him and admiring his long robe! Then Queen Katherine entered arrayed in her beautiful gown and again everyone stood and applauded as she entered. After being escorted to the side of her king, he crowned her, presented her with a dozen red roses then kissed her! The cameras were going off the entire time. The smiles were memory moments, and it was a dream come true for this lovely couple!
The grand finale of the entire event was celebrating Mardi Gras day downtown on the Archbishop’s porch! After spending the day watching parades with exquisite floats of various themes, everyone came home with throws of every kind, extremely happy hearts and loads of memories of Mardi Gras 2012! God bless all our dear Residents, our Activity Department and our Dietary Department who made all this happen and with so much LOVE and JOY!
