A big blue bus carrying young ladies wearing bright pink t-shirts recently made a stop at Sacred Heart Residence bringing smiles, gifts and songs to our Residents. Our Home was the first stop on the second annual “Nun Run” sponsored by the Youth Ministry of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Tallahassee, FL. The girls, ranging in ages from middle school to college, and their adult chaperones came to visit and serve as well as experience a brief glimpse into the life of a religious community. Our auditorium became “Camp Nun Run” for one night complete with air mattresses, cots, sleeping bags and lots of colorful bedding!
The girls and their chaperones toured the Home, visited with Residents in the dining room, participated in a lively afternoon activity and treated us to a beautiful musical performance. Rosary, evening prayer and supper with the Little Sisters was followed by a lively question-and-answer session which everyone enjoyed. An early morning Mass the next day gave the group the opportunity to share in the spiritual life of our family of Residents and Sisters.
Nun Run programs throughout the country give young women a chance to visit convents and other facilities staffed by various religious congregations. The big blue bus left Mobile headed for New Orleans to visit Sisters of several different communities. The visits will expose the girls from Blessed Sacrament Parish to religious communities that are not represented in the Tallahassee area to learn about their lives and their work. We hope these young ladies enjoyed their first stop on the Nun Run with the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Residents of Sacred Heart!
